Peeping Tom

Peeping Tom (1960) ★★★★

"I have always felt that Peeping Tom and 8½ say everything that can be said about film-making, about the process of dealing with film, the objectivity and subjectivity of it and the confusion between the two. 8½ captures the glamour and enjoyment of film-making, while Peeping Tom shows the aggression of it, how the camera violates... From studying them you can discover everything about people who make films, or at least people who express themselves through films." -Martin Scorsese

Agatha Christie is a Russian gothic rock group which created its unique style incorporating post-punk/new wave music with decadent poetry in their lyrics and made a great contribution to Russian rock. Over their history, the band explored a variety of styles, from the synth-pop of Depeche Mode and Freddie Mercury's extravaganza to the gloomy post-punk of The Cure and The Damned. Unlike the majority of the Russian rock scene, which historically adhered to the guitar-driven rock, Agatha Christie embraced a hefty share of synthesizer rhythms and drums, which, together with the characteristic vocals switching from suggestive whisper to hysterical shrieks, makes their style easily recognizable.

Kino was a Soviet rock band headed by Viktor Tsoi. It was one of the most famous Soviet rock groups of the 1980s. At the beginning of the Perestroika era, the band gained more prominence, and the 1988 album Gruppa krovi, together with the film Needle, which starred Tsoi, brought the band to the pinnacle of popularity.

Tsoi died in a car accident near Riga in 1990. A vocal track survived the accident and the rest of the band went on to complete the 'Black Album'. The band's popularity in the Soviet Union was so extraordinarily high that after Tsoi's death, the words "Tsoi is alive!" and “Kino” appeared on public surfaces throughout the country. Writing these words became a kind of a memorial ritual among fans of the band. Even today the slogan occasionally surfaces in urban graffiti.
