I noticed Anna is going to be in Brändö(between Turku and Åland) this summer playing at Island in the Sun festival (16.-17.07.). I have to admit I had never heard of the festival before Riina brought it up a few weeks ago. The Concretes are there as well! To be honest I thought they had become extinct.

I had almost forgotten the existence of Nephew, a Danish band I used to listen to A LOT back in 2004, until I saw an advert of their upcoming gig in Helsinki (On the Rocks, May 11th). I remember their videos being played on some Swedish-speaking Saturday afternoon music show on TV2. I guess they never became more famous in Finland. Which is a shame really, they have some catchy tunes and interestingly mix English and Danish in their lyrics.

I am yet to familiarise myself with their new stuff so here's a couple of their old songs.

Histoires extraordinaires, a horror anthology film, features three stories by Edgar Allan Poe directed by European directors Roger Vadim, Louis Malle and Federico Fellini.

Dirty Sexy Money

Yesterday I Finished watching Dirty Sexy Money, an American TV-series cancelled after just two seasons. The series was like the Bold and the Beautiful accelerated 100 times. All kinds of twists, such as revenging a father's dead, fake amnesia, alcoholism, a transvestite lover, assassination, Gustav the Swedish orphan and kidnapping, were crammed into just two seasons! Pretty incredible. Although Dirty Sexy Money cannot boast with quality (except for Donald Sutherland as the patriarch), it did manage to get me hooked, mainly because it was so bloody entertaining.



The Hungarian trailer is pretty amusing, it's like channel nine news in the Fast Show. JÄRKÄLE JOHTO! (0:14)

The Hot Spot

The Hot Spot (1990) ★★★

The beginning is very lynchian. I guess director Dennis Hopper got influenced by Blue Velvet in which he worked with Lynch a few years before Hot Spot. The film starts getting confusing and, to be honest, rather boring after the first hour. But you'll want to keep on watching because you will be rewarded with topless 19-year-old Jennifer Connelly! Had they replaced Don Johnson (Miami Vice) as the lead this film could've become a classic.

HBO's heroin documentary. Available on Youtube in 10 min clips, or you can use the torrent.

The film is brutal in the depiction of drug-related crimes and diseases: prostitution, male prostitution, AIDS, and lethal overdoses. The director also put a lot of emphasis on the moral sides pertaining to the junkie lifestyle: from the question of robbing other people for money to the degradation of family relations and loss of friends, a wide scale of highly unconventional problems are exposed.
