The Chills Albums (downloads)

Have a taste first.

If there is nothing wrong with you and you liked the track, you can now continue to download the albums of the New Zealand band. I managed to find direct links (behind the covers) for Kaleidoscope World, Brave Words and Secret Box. For Soft Bomb and Sunburnt (and the three above mentioned) there is a torrent. The latest album Stand By and 1994 best of collection Heavenly Pop Hits I couldn't find anywhere. If someone has these or knows where to get them, please do let me know!

Luvassa tietoisesti noloin postaus yet.

HIFK - HPK 3-4 (0-1,3-0,0-2,0-1)

"Hämeenlinnan urhea ritarilauma onnistui kääntämään puolivälierien asetelmat
päälaelleen, kun se nappasi komean jatkoaikavoiton Helsingin jäähallissa. HIFK oli
vielä toisella erätauolla niskan päällä, mutta Kerho iski ottelun tasoihin ja meni
jatkoerässä ohi."

Brazil

Brazil (1985) ★★★★

Vuokko forced me to watch this classic and I'm happy she did. I had seen fragments of it earlier but it was about time I finally got round to watching the whole film.

Brazil is a dystopian, depressing vision of a bureaucratic big brother state. Obvious comparisons to Kafka and Orwell came into mind.

Last year I saw a Francois Truffaut film Fahrenheit 451 (based on Ray Bradbury's novel) which is of similar mould, although more cheerful and simplistic than Brazil. The actors (Oskar Werner & Julie Christie) were also more likeable.

Fahrenheit 451 (1966) ★★★★

Continuing with the theme, I guess I ought to watch Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927) next, especially as it has been waiting for its turn on my laptop since summer..

Five Easy Pieces

Five Easy Pieces (1970) ★★★★

I'm starting to notice the same effects with watching Jack Nicholson films as what happened last year with reading Albert Camus novels, I'm idolising the main characters so much that I absorb their personalities, even the evil, into my own thinking. Perhaps I should download a few Disney films next..

Anyways, the film. Jack plays Robert who's been running away from his family, his musical talent and life in general for years. He sleeps around, drinks and does other typical things for (troubled) young men. There is a deeper side to him, but it mainly stays for the audience to figure out on their own as he manages to run away or engage in sexual activity (~run away) every time emotions, whether it's love or hatred, are starting to surface. Sound familiar? Maybe..

Needless to say, Jack carries the movie but Karen Black, of whom I've never heard before despite the 182 listings on IMDB, is lovely as the simple girlfriend.

North By Northwest (1959) ★★★

Overrated?

Telmisseomding / Tell Me Something (1999) ★★★

A Korean thriller. Don't be put off by the Placebo song, the film can actually boast with a very good soundtrack, including Nick Cave.

Outlook

Now that I'm becoming a grown woman I've had to start organising my life a bit more. Instead of getting one of those leather calendars that would fit my purse I've started using Outlook. The best invention since bread! (No I did not mean sliced bread.)

Moon

Moon (2009) ★★★

More intelligent than the average sci-fi film with Clint Mansell's music (I'm sure everyone who's seen Requiem for a Dream remembers Marion Barfs). Kevin Spacey is also great as the robot's voice.

Secret Shine

Ouch, can't remember when I last had a hangover on a Friday. This one is definitely intensified by the sun which raises the temperature in my flat to 30C, and all the yellow student overalls I had to bear watching last night at a local nightclub 'Las Vegas'. Let's not even mention the fact that I spent most of the evening in the karaoke room. Why did I go? Mainly to hang out with my old buddy Juuso who I hadn't seen for almost a year (the last time was when we randomly ended up at the same kickabout in Kupittaa park). A walk home at 3am along the river bank made up for most of the mental damage the evening had caused. This wonderful track started playing on my ipod when crossing a railway bridge, making the walk one of those unforgettable drunken night journeys.

Secret Shine - Secret Shine mp3

I had never heard a single track of theirs before, or heard of the band - which is rather surprising when wikipedia compares them to Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine. Apparently they are still active. One more reason to really start looking for a job.

The Last Detail

The Last Detail (1973) ★★★

Jack Nicholson and his navy colleague get an order to escort a dim-witted young man to prison. They have been given more time for the trip than is actually needed so before handing him in they decide to show the lad the finer things in life, such as gambling, beer and pussy. Nicholson in his role as a bad ass navy is, once again, amazing. The soundtrack, though, is probably the worst ever.

Well kid, there's more things in this life than you can possibly imagine. I knew a whore once in Wilmington. She had a glass eye... used to take it out and wink people off for a dollar.

First Impressions of Planet Turku

1. Student lunch is excellent.
2. Girls are approachable.
3. Dynamo is still the best bar in the world.
4. Crowmoor 2,80€ on weekdays keeps me fat.
5. I still won't dance until I've had 12 portions of alcohol.
6. People are still trying to buy my hat.
7. Even in Turku, the prettiest girls can be found at the library
8. I have to travel 1,5km to get my hands on the Economist.
9. I hate the snow and I miss the rain.
10. I wish Arturo Bandini was real and would go to Dynamo with me.
