Five Easy Pieces

Five Easy Pieces (1970) ★★★★

I'm starting to notice the same effects with watching Jack Nicholson films as what happened last year with reading Albert Camus novels, I'm idolising the main characters so much that I absorb their personalities, even the evil, into my own thinking. Perhaps I should download a few Disney films next..

Anyways, the film. Jack plays Robert who's been running away from his family, his musical talent and life in general for years. He sleeps around, drinks and does other typical things for (troubled) young men. There is a deeper side to him, but it mainly stays for the audience to figure out on their own as he manages to run away or engage in sexual activity (~run away) every time emotions, whether it's love or hatred, are starting to surface. Sound familiar? Maybe..

Needless to say, Jack carries the movie but Karen Black, of whom I've never heard before despite the 182 listings on IMDB, is lovely as the simple girlfriend.

North By Northwest (1959) ★★★

Overrated?

Telmisseomding / Tell Me Something (1999) ★★★

A Korean thriller. Don't be put off by the Placebo song, the film can actually boast with a very good soundtrack, including Nick Cave.
